PHASE THREE OF THE UGANDA WATER PROJECT 2012

Phase Three of the five phase Uganda water project will move forward in 2012 in cooperation with a local group of Ugandan volunteers who call themselves The Rwenzori Rural Health Services.

Goals are to reduce morbidity and mortality from illness due to water borne diseases for approximately 1120 total beneficiaries (698 children & 160 households). This will be accomplished by Increasing the availability of clean water to the school and nearby community and through educational activities related to issues of hygiene & sanitation.

The project will directly benefit one primary school and one village, with benefits to four other villages indirectly. This will be accomplished by laying 1610 meters of pipe from the 40 cubic meter circular water storage tank that was completed in phase two to the Nyakasijo Primary school in Uganda by gravity flow. This project includes several water taps near rural homes along the way.

When completed this project will reduce the walking distance required by women and children to fetch water from two or three miles down to half a mile or in some cases zero miles.

When completed this project will reduce the time it takes to fill a twenty liter Jerry can with water from forty minutes down to one minute.
